General Patent Settles All Patent Infringement Lawsuits with Verizon Wireless over Key Cell Phone Patent

Patent Litigation Addressed Both Cell Phone and Bluetooth Applications

Suffern, N.Y., May 26, 2010 − General Patent Corporation (GPC), a leading patent licensing and enforcement firm, announced today on behalf of its subsidiary, Digital Technology Licensing LLC (DTL), that it reached a settlement with Cellco Partnership d/b/a Verizon Wireless of three lawsuits involving the DTL cellular communications patent.

DTL owns U.S. Patent No. 5,051,799 (the ’799 Patent) titled “Digital Output Transducer.” The technology covered by the ‘799 Patent addresses Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) codec and other cellular communication standards, assuring backward compatibility of cell phone handsets and base stations. Digital Technology Licensing filed two patent infringement lawsuits (05-1922 and 08-00477) in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey covering cellular service applications of the ‘799 Patent. DTL also filed a third patent infringement lawsuit (2:09-cv-2567) in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York that covered Bluetooth applications of the ‘799 Patent. After five years in litigation, Verizon Wireless and DTL agreed to a settlement of all lawsuits.

“We are very pleased to reach a settlement with Verizon Wireless,” said Paul J. Lerner, General Patent’s Sr. Vice President and General Counsel.
