SUFFERN, NY, March 19, 2003 -- General Patent Corporation (GPC) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Acticon Technologies LLC (Acticon), has entered into a license agreement with SBS Technologies (Nasdaq: SBSE), a New Mexico designer and manufacturer of PCMCIA form factor devices for the avionics and military industries, and other devices. GPC, a leading patent licensing and enforcement firm headquartered in Suffern, New York, represented Acticon in this transaction. Alexander Poltorak, GPC's Chairman and CEO, said, "Although this technology and the patents protecting it continue to be of significant value to companies involved in computer connectivity and communications, this technology is also used for other applications, including avionics and the military."
"We are happy to extend a license to SBS, the first vendor of ARINC 429 and MIL-STD-1553 PC Cards to license our patents," stated Steven Farago, Acticon's chief technologist and an inventor of the licensed patents. "We hope other companies in this industry will follow suit," Dr. Farago added. Acticon's "smart connector" patents cover specific aspects of PC cards and other "smart" connector devices used in mobile computer communication, networking, and instrumentation control. More than 90% of the PC cards sold in the United States today are licensed under the Acticon patents. GPC has successfully represented Acticon in over 60 licensing transactions.
