
Communications Daily: GPC Licenses DTL Patents to 11 Phone Companies

TUESDAY, AUGUST 18, 2009 - Digital Technology Licensing (DTL) has licensed its key cellphone patent to 11 phone companies, said General Patent Corp., a patent licensing and enforcement firm representing DTL. The patent, Digital Output Transducer, covers Adaptive Multi-Rate codec and other cellular communication standards and are used to assure backward compatibility of cellphone handsets and base stations. Other applications of the patented technology include Bluetooth devices. The 11 phone companies are Copper Valley Wireless, Silver Star Telephone, SKT Wireless, Etex Communications, Syringa Wireless, NTCH, Thumb Cellular, South Central Communications, Texas RSA 7B3, Panhandle Telecommunication Systems and Inland Cellular Telephone. All licensees are paying the DTL standard royalty rate of 0.7 percent of cellphone service revenue.
