November 27, 2013 - Online retailer Newegg was the loser in a patent lawsuit against non-practicing entity TQP Development. A Texas jury rejected Newegg's claim that TQP's patent on Web encryption was invalid and ordered Newegg to pay TQP $2.3 million, which was less than half the amount of damages TQP had requested.
November 20, 2013 - Samsung Electronics has requested a mistrial in a retrial over how much Samsung owes Apple for patent infringement, and it's due to a remark the South Korean company construed as racially tinged.
November 6, 2013 - Home Depot Inc., J.C. Penney Co. and Toys 'R' Us Inc. won their patent lawsuits with Alexsam Inc. by default. When a judge denied Alexsam's request to delay the October 22 trial so Alexsam could find new lawyers, Alexsam dropped its suit against the three retailers.
