Paul J. Lerner
Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Paul J. Lerner is the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of General Patent Corporation (GPC), an intellectual property (IP) strategy company focusing on patent licensing and enforcement, international technology transfer, and IP portfolio management and valuation.
Before joining GPC, Mr. Lerner was a partner in the Hartford, CT business law firm of Pepe & Hazard LLP. He has led IP law departments at Olin Corp., Black & Decker Corp., and multi-national electrical construction giant Asea Brown Boveri, Inc.
Prior to embarking on a law career, Mr. Lerner was a project manager at the Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute in Chicago, where he managed a technology transfer and technology forecasting team.
Mr. Lerner’s education includes a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University, an M.B.A. from Loyola University, a J.D. from DePaul University, and post-graduate legal studies at John Marshall College of Law.
Paul Lerner co-authored with GPC’s Chairman and CEO, Alexander Poltorak, two books, Essentials of Licensing Intellectual Property (John Wiley & Sons, 2004) and Essentials of Intellectual Property (John Wiley & Sons, 2002), and numerous articles, which include an article about Grain Processing v. American Maize Products, “Grain, Grain, Go Away”, which examined recent major developments in lost profits (Intellectual Property Worldwide, May 2000), “Corporate Officers and Directors Can Be Liable for Mismanaging Intellectual Property” (Patent Strategy & Management, May and June, 2000), and “Introducing Litigation Risk Analysis,” (Managing Intellectual Property, May 2001). Mr. Lerner also authored “Strategic Auditing: The Key to Minimizing Litigation Bills” (www.corporateintelligence.com, September 2000). Mr. Lerner is a member of the Licensing Executives Society (LES).
Mr. Lerner is a registered patent attorney and is admitted to practice in Connecticut, Illinois, New York, CAFC and USPTO.
